Nine months

My baby is 9 months old today! I know I say this every month, but I can't believe how big she is!
I love her so much. I am so blessed to be her mother.

Yesterday was her 9 month checkup at the pediatrician's office. Her current stats are:

Height: 27 3/4 inches------ 27%
Weight: 19 lbs 13 oz --------50%

At her last check up she was 90% for everything, so I guess she's stopped growing for a little bit. Kate is now a very mobile baby. She can now:

crawl very fast
crawl up the stairs
pull herself up
walk along the furniture
walk quickly while pushing her little stroller
stand unsupported for a few seconds
can say syllables "ma ma, da da, ba, ba"
feed herself small foods
get into everything
clap her hands
make funny faces
make funny noises

I love you Kate! The best thing I ever did with my life was bring you into it!

Following through

One of new year's resolutions this year was to work on making my house a home. Here's what I've been working on lately!

We finally ordered our family pictures that we took about 4 months ago. I put them all into frames, and hung them above my entertainment center.

We found this shelf at Goodwill (my new favorite store!). It was originally ugly pine, but with some black spray paint and sand paper, I made it beautiful.

I also finally busted out my sewing machine today. Having not sewn since junior high, it took me quite a while to figure it out! haha. I would be lying if I said I was a little frustrated. I was VERY frustrated. I couldn't keep the dang needle threaded. I would start sewing and then everything would come undone. I finally figured out my mistake after reading the manual for the twentieth time. Turns out I was threading the needle from the back, not the front--and I guess that's very important!

Anyway-- I made these pillows. They were kind of a "test" to see what I could remember from home economics.

And finally, here's what I put up in Kate's room.
I found these old frames in a box of my old high school stuff. I painted them red to match her room. The cute black thing was another Goodwill find! I spray painted it black and distressed it a little, and I think it turned out adorable!

Exciting projects!

Do you love Pottery Barn's furniture but would never EVER pay the price for it?

Me either. Well, I before I go to bed, I just had to tell everyone about this amazing blog that I found. This author is a carpenter named Anna. She takes furniture from Pottery Barn as inspiration, and builds you a step-by-step EASY plan to build it. I am so excited! I am always saying how I wish I could build furniture, and now I really think that I can. You guys must check this out! http://knockoffwood.blogspot.com/

This console table is going to be my first project. It's the easiest thing on the website, so I'm pretty sure I can handle it!
I am also planning on building those shelves and that cubby!

Foree Family Pics

Over Christmas, we took some family pictures. You can't really tell from our smiling faces, but it was fuh-reezing! Check out the picture with the frozen fountain. Beautiful. These are the ones that I thought turned out the best. Mom- I will get you the disc with all the pictures soon!

I love how you can see our reflection in the wall on this one.

I love this one.

See? Frozen icey fountain. So pretty.

The 50 year old blue dress

My mom has been visiting us the past couple of days. Today we took Kate to get some professional portraits. We were trying to recreate this picture:

This is me. Ain't I cute?

My great-grandmother (Kate's great-great grandmother) purchased this dress and my mother has a picture in it, my Aunt Sherri has a picture in it, my cousin Khristen has a picture in it...and now Kate! It was so fun to keep this tradition alive, and it's such a beautiful dress!

You think she's my daughter? haha. She looks just like me!!

We also took some pictures without the blue dress, and I think they turned out pretty cute too.

You may remember that both my mother and my husband gave me aprons for Christmas. Here are Kate and I modeling them for you!

My mom made these:

Isn't she talented?

And Dustin gave me these:

Kate loves helping out in the kitchen!

My curse

IMPETIGO

im·pe·ti·go
(ĭm'pĭ-tī'gō)
n. pl. im·pe·ti·gos
A contagious bacterial skin infection, usually of children, that is characterized by the eruption of superficial pustules and the formation of thick yellow crusts, commonly on the face.

[Middle English, from Latin impetīgō, from impetere, to attack; see impetus.]

Have you ever heard of this?

If you know me well, you have. I have been cursed with this skin infection many times. Too many times. I cannot even count the times this horrid little beast has made an appearance on my face.

It is not a cold sore. It looks like one, but it is not. It is much more evil. It spreads rapidly (if not taken care of) and will take over your entire face. I have had this happen twice.

I was in junior high the first time. At first we thought it was an allergic reaction to dish soap. But after a week or two of it getting worse and spreading all over my face (completely humiliating for a tween) my mother finally took me to a dermatologist where I was diagnosed and given antibiotics. I moved on with my life and forgot about it...

...until I was in college. I was dating Dustin at the time, and I was trying to get in touch with my spiritual side. I felt that I needed to be closer to the Lord in order to make the decision to marry. So... I prayed to be humbled. Which, you know, isn't the worst idea. Sometimes people need humbling. After this experience though, I have always been more careful for what I pray for. haha.

The next morning I woke up with what I thought was a killer cold sore. My roommate took me to the store and we bought some Abreva. This, unfortunately, did nothing. It only made it spread. I had health insurance, but there was a battle over which doctor I was allowed to go to. I didn't make it to the doctor until about 2 weeks after the infection had started and by that time it was ALL OVER my face. I think I skipped school for about a week because I was too embarrassed to show my face anywhere.

This is not a picture of my face. But ask Dustin, Dawn Sheree or Cindy and they'll tell you this is about how I looked:

Long story short. I finally got medicine and it was gone. Untill...

...my wedding day.

Yes. You read that right. A couple days before my wedding day I woke up to the spawn of satan on my lower lip. I completely freaked out, and went to the doctor right away. I mean, how could I even kiss my groom if I had a disease on my mouth?!? I recieved my antibiotics (and a lecture on how birth control will not work while I'm on them) and began to treat the impetigo. Something I havent told you yet though--impetigo looks WORSE when it's healing. It gets crusty yellow dry scabs, easily bleeds, and appears much larger. I'm sorry, were you eating?

Anyway, even though I had medicine, this curse was on my lip for my wedding and all the pictures that go with it. At my reception my mother planned this really sweet thing where I started off dancing with my Dad, then my husband cut in, then my brother Andy, then Jared. I never got to Alex. While I was dancing with Jared I spun him around (he was still little then) but when I did, his arm hit my mouth and I started bleeding everywhere!

No I am not making this up. I'm not even exaggerating. This actually happened to me.
At. My. Wedding. Reception.

Now roughly about every 3-6 months I have had bouts with this skin disease. It never leaves me. Which brings me to this morning. This morning I woke up with this:

Disgusting right? Enlarge the picture, if you dare. The worst part is-- I JUST HAD THIS. Two weeks ago! My impetigo occurrences have seemed to increased exponentially. I will be diligent in taking ALL my antibiotics this time. But it will be back.

It always comes back.

So folks, the moral of this story is that the Lord does indeed answer our prayers. If you pray to be humbled, you might just end up with a disease on your face.

Just some pics of Kate (who else?)

Lately I have been wasting a lot of time in Photoshop. I'm having lots of fun figuring it out and learning new techniques. These aren't the best pictures, but I had a blast creating them. I have a very basic camera, so it's hard to get the results I want with it. Believe it or not I actually do own a Canon SLR. Dustin and I bought it when we took a photography class back in college. Only problem is that it's a film camera. Yeah. It's basically obselete now. I've always wanted to purchase a digital one, but never have. Maybe I'll add "get the camera I've always wanted" to my list of new year's resolutions. Anyway, I thought these pictures turned out kind of cute and I thought I would post them.

There is actually a story behind this little red dress. I originally bought it 3-ish years ago when I found out my friend Alicia was having a little girl. Well, obviously I was a horrible friend and never gave it to her (sorry Eash) but I always kept it because I thought it was so cute and I wanted it for my little girl. Over the years I would come across it and smile, imagining my litte girl wearing it. Then, when I found out that I was having a little girl, I was so excited that I already had something for her. This is also the dress that inspired me to decorate Kate's room in ladybugs.
Yesterday, I was organizing boxes of Kates clothes and I found it! I had completely forgotten about it! I looked at the tag and realized that it's now the perfect size for Kate.

*tear*

I love this little girl!
